Alexander Armstrong A Year of Songs Live Tickets at the Opera House, Manchester
Sunday 21st February 2016
Tickets from £24.15
Comedian and quiz show king Alexander Armstrong has added another string to his bow, and announced that he’ll be releasing his debut album this year, and touring the UK in 2016.
Known by some as one half of the comedy duo Armstrong and Miller, and by many as the presenter of BBC quiz show Pointless (a true tele-visual treat), Alexander Armstrong is something of a national treasure.
Now, forty years after he became a choirboy, Armstrong is returning to his first love of music with the release of debut album A Year Of Songs.
The album’s track list includes a song from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Gershwin’s ‘Porgy and Bess’ and ‘Summertime’, and ‘Rothbury Hills’, for which he wrote the lyrics himself.
“It started out as a collection of pastoral English songs,” explained Armstrong in a press release. “But we wanted this, being a first album, to have a broad reach. So it grew to encompass songs from Britain and Ireland… and we’ve cheated a little by going further afield. I suppose what they all have in common is that they are all songs I love.”
