What’s on in Manchester: The Phantom of the Opera at The Palace Theatre

Between 5th April 2012 and 19th May 2012 Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera is coming to the Palace Theatre, Manchester. The Phantom of the Opera will star John Owen-Jones, who plays the role of ‘The Phantom’ and Katie Hall who will play the role of ‘Christine’.
This will be the first time the show has spread it’s wings and visited the city of Rock n’ Goals! Cameron Mackintosh said “After 25 phenomenal years and a glorious celebration of the show’s success at the Royal Albert Hall, I’m delighted to announce that a spectacular new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s legendary musical will open its National Tour next March in Plymouth.
The show will have an exciting new design and staging, retaining Maria Björnson’s amazing costumes, be the first to surrender to the music of the night in Manchester and fall in love with the Phantom in his new guise all over again.
This spectacular new production is directed by Laurence Connor, with choreography by Scott Ambler, Set Design by Paul Brown, Costume Design by Maria Björnson, Lighting Design by Paule Constable and Sound Design by Mick Potter. The production is overseen by Cameron Mackintosh and Matthew Bourne.
The Phantom of the Opera became the longest running show in Broadway history on 9 January 2006 when it celebrated its 7,486th performance, surpassing the previous record holder Cats. This coincided with the Broadway and the US national touring company celebrating an unprecedented 20,000 performances in the United States. In October 2010 the London production celebrated its 10,000th performance also the Hit Movie of the Musical as only placed this musical firmly as a fan favourite. The show remains one of the most popular musicals of all time.
